I could always blog about blogging...
I have been a bad, bad blogger. I know I said that I would try to be better about posting, but apparently I’m a dirty liar.
To be honest, it hasn’t even been a time issue—since quitting the part-time restaurant gig, I’ve been far more relaxed and I’ve had plenty of extra hours to do things that I actually like. Writing is something I actually like, so why the lack of inspired blogging?
Part of the problem is this particular blog’s themeless existence. Sure, I try to let folks know about charity events and volunteer opportunities, but that’s tough to write about all the time. My job is pretty interesting, but I’ve never been one to blog about work. I’ve been trying to exercise more and lose a few pounds, but no one wants to read about my diet and fitness routine. I’m in a fabulous committed relationship, so I don’t have any funny dating stories. Overall, I lead an incredibly satisfying existence—but I don’t find it particularly blog-worthy.
I could delve into politics, but come on, this is DC—we all get plenty of that already. Of course, food is a passion of mine, but I cover all sorts of culinary topics over at EatFoo. College football is gearing up, and I’m definitely gung-ho about that, but there are plenty of sports bloggers, all more knowledgable and entertaining than I am. The fact is, I’m interested in many things, but I find myself uninterested in writing about them.
Perhaps I’m just going through a rut—a little blogger’s block, if you will. In any case, I’m curious to find out how other folks deal with this issue. When your life isn’t providing compelling material, what do you do? Do you write about it anyway, not caring? Do you look to others’ lives for inspiration (anonymously or otherwise)? Do you latch onto what fellow bloggers are writing about? Do you turn to memes? How do you deal with blogger's block?

I personally quit for two weeks. Works for me. I'm not recommending it for you though. Do as I say, not as I do.

I contemplated a hiatus--but I was afraid that it would become permanent. Maybe attending tomorrow's happy hour will renew my blogging vigor? :-)

Memes are the last resort of the desperate and I cannot discourage their use strongly enough. Observe your everyday surroundings and routines with a sharp eye, narrow the focus of your posts, and talk about what you see. Add a photo or two, but not photos that you painstakingly construct, but a quick snapshot of what you see.
I do, however, fully endorse taking a month off every so often. It's hell on your stats, but if you're doing this for stats, you're doing it for the wrong reasons. At a minimum take 3 weeks - anything less isn't a hiatus in my book.
Or start a blog war with Phil. That'll keep you good and busy and quickly disabuse you of the notion that you have full control of your blog's storyline.

I just take a break. And then it seems like I have so much to write about but no time to write.

I stopped posting quality stuff, and stopped posting regularly. I took more photos, and sorta just rode the tide until inspiration hit again. And it did.

When I am in a rut I let myself blog 1-2 times a week instead of 3-4, but I try not to go below that just because I'm afraid I would stop altogether.

Well, you know, we could always start the pansiest blog war of all time (between us, I mean).
OMG, you're so, like, MEANand stuff!
Or you could just say that you have no content, no time to blog, etc., and instantly you will find a plethora of things to write about. Works for me every time.
